The Team, in collaboration with Koetter Kim and Buro Happold Engineers, were commissioned by King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (KA-CARE) to produce urban and landscape design proposals for a Masterplan on a 60 km² site to the west of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The brief called for a new carbon-neutral city with the potential to be a net exporter of energy throughout the implementation of the scheme. The Team have delivered detailed proposals for a sustainable community of 180,000 people including new mixed use settlements, a university campus, a 730 hectares solar farm, research and development facilities and supporting strategies for energy, water management (recovery and recycling), environment and movement (including light rail-based public transport.
